Your Source for Information about the New Violin Family and the Octavivo Organization

. . . About the Octavivo Organization . . .

  • Octavivo
  • Our Objectives
  • Your Resources

The name "OctaVivo!" isn't a real word, but rather one that is made up from two other words-- "Octa" for the Violin Octet, and "Vivo!" which is intended to convey a feeling of life and energy. This will not be your Grandmother's non-profit association!

With the merger of the New Violin Family Association (NVFA) and the Hutchins Consort in December, 2009, and with the transfer of the NVFA's office to Southern California, we in the East were left without a legal entity to regionally promote the New Violin Family. Several individuals who were active in the NVFA (and the old Catgut Acoustical Society prior to 2000) decided to attempt the formation of a similar group, and we contemplated that the new organization would be a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit corporation with a mission to promote the New Violin Family.

We've done well, as far as we've gone; it's just that we haven't gone very far yet. The extraordinary financial situation that has plagued the nation for the last year and a half has also impacted established non-profits to a considerable extent. It has been especially difficult for those attempting to start up, and we have been slowed considerably by events beyond our control.

You've got to admire us, though; we're still trying! Keep checking back to this page, and we'll keep you posted on how we're doing!

Here are the areas in which we hope OctaVivo! will function. When you reach the bottom of the list, and you conclude that we've left something out, please share your thoughts.
